2006 F1 Malaysia
My first "full access" Formula 1 race weekend certainly did not disappoint!
With genuine thanks to my dear friend Jacques Deschenaux, this year's Malaysian F1 Grand Prix was definitely an amazing experience. Having full access to the pits, the cars and the paddocks, it was certainly special. Walking the paddocks the entire weekend and getting up close and personal with drivers, mechanics and especially past legends such as Jean Alesi, Niki Lauda and Jacques Laffitte was amazing.
As for the cars themselves, they continue to be beautiful works of art, and now pumping out 21,000rpm from a V8 engine, they sound more stunning than ever.
In the end, Giancarlo Fisichella made up for all his disappointments in 2005 with a smooth victory in Malaysia. The Italian started from pole position, and though he ran with less fuel than his Renault team mate Fernando Alonso, he was able to manage his race to maintain sufficient pace to beat the Spaniard by 4.5 seconds.
Now we all know a Formula 1 event is all about the cars ... sophisticated, arrogant, intricate, sensitive, and most definitely beautiful. It seems to be the same case for the women of the paddock as well ...
