Audemars Piguet: Royal Oak Offshore "Bumble Bee" – Limited Edition
What collector doesn't have Audemars Piguet on their wish list?
The world's oldest watchmaker (since 1875), AP still produces some of the most coveted timepieces in the world. Mine is simply the fruit of a past business partnership. With our GPGuide website sponsored by Audemars Piguet during the first 3 years of exitence, I had the opportunity to visit the AP headquarters in Le Brassus, in the Joux Valley, near Geneva, thanks to their Global Head of Marketing, Stéphane Fenner. What a treat!
Seeing up close the heritage of two men (Jules-Louis Audemars & Edward-Auguste Piguet) with a passion for Fine Watchmaking, who in 1875, joined forces to design and produce complication watches in the Joux Valley, was an absolute treat for someone like myself. Some, if not all, of the pieces on display in their private museum were absolutely astonishing in design and beauty.
Commonly know as the Bumble Bee (although it's not the official name), the new AP Forged Carbon ROO features a ceramic bezel and links, and an ultralight case made of carbon fiber that is compressed at high temperatures (forged carbon). The case was exclusively developed and produced by Audemars Piguet. The case-back features the Royal Oak Offshore logo and is made of blackened steel. Inside is a robust new manufacture movement. The exclusive self-winding Calibre 3126/3840. The crown and pushpieces are rubber-coated. The black dial features the exclusive "Mega Tapestry" motif, yellow numerals and chronograph seconds hand, luminescent hour and minute hands, with yellow tachometric scale. All in all ... an absolute joy to wear!
